This is a wonderful feature if you are using script fonts like I will be working with today. If you are using Design Space desktop, Cricut recently rolled out a new text feature that will automatically Kern your fonts. I'll be searching for About Love, a font that I recently installed. A box will appear, and you will now be able to search for your font. Next, choose your font by clicking on the Font tab button on your upper toolbar. Type your text in the rectangle box that will appear on your screen. You can do this by clicking on the green rectangle box label New Project.Ĭlick on your Text tool on your left side toolbar. Start by opening Cricut Design Space and create a new project. Step 2 - Type Out Text and Change the Font This is Character map on PC (How to access flourishes characters on PC via Character Map.In this tutorial, we will be using a heart script font called About Love, but there are tons of great fonts with swashes available on Font Bundles. That method is really for advance designers because it gives more control. The second method is a little bit advanced if you ask me because it requires you to use the Character map on PC or Font book on Mac.If you have uploaded the SVG file to Cricut, all you have to do is ungroup it and keep the character you need for your design using the eye icon next to the layers. If I provide an SVG file, you can upload it to Cricut, and it will upload all the long tail letters.I provide two ways to access your font tails. TTF font files usually are more compatible on any platform, so even if I provide the “OTF” version of the font, I still recommend installing the TTF font version to ensure you get all the special characters available. Double click or tap on the font file ending with the extension “.ttf.” This will install the font. You can browse “latest” to see all the files. Please remember that the zip folder will usually unzip the files to your “FILES” blue app colour on apple. I think it is the same on android devices, but I can’t tell since I never tried. I say it is annoying because having all the files grouped within a folder makes it easier to manage it, but since the apple device will release the files, you can’t be sure which file is related to the font folder. So far, it doesn’t create a new folder, but once you tap on the zip folder, it will release all the files. On mobile, it is a little bit different and annoying for a beginner, if you will. Please note the location because I have been asked many times, “where are my files.” The Zip application will ask where to unzip it. Once all the zip application is installed, or on Mac, all you have to do is to double-click on the zip folder, and it will create a new folder. Luckily, it doesn’t require any zip application to unzip it on Mac or any Apple devices (iPhone, IPad, Mac Desktop). Some are free on google play store, but it comes with ads. Some people told me they are using one of these three apps: You will need a Zip application on Android devices (Any Tablet or mobile Chromebook, Samsung tab, Samsung book, etc. The one I am using is that one:īut any other zip software will work on a PC desktop or laptop. I always provide fonts within a zip folder to save space. Since I did not create it to balance the final design, I will show you how to achieve a much better look by using the lowercase tail letter. Like the Olivia font, some people often ask me where the Uppercase tail is. That is my opinion, but I am always open to new ideas, so I did create a few fonts with capital letters with the tail, but that is not my preferred choice. While some people would not see any difference between the lowercase and uppercase swatches, I really do, and I strongly think a design or logo looks much better with lower case. In my case, I made tons of custom fonts and graphic design for small to big companies, and after years, I noticed long-tail letters look much better on lowercase letters. As a designer, we decide what’s best for the final look. But we don’t always create fonts with tails on the uppercase letters. Jump to the final step: How to add tails to fontsįonts with swashes (Some call it flourishes fonts or long-tail letters like I do) are created by font designers like me.
